Inspired from walking in the forested mountains surrounding Kawaguchiko lake, looking up and seeing blanketed layers of maple leaves and alder leaves twinkling in the light – a pattern across the sky as far as the eye can see. The juxtaposition of texture and tone is illuminated through ambient backlighting, which furthers the overall tranquillity of the design.
Delicately rendered on Tenjin paper, the Alder design explores the subtle tonal simplicity of leaf and colour entwining. The nuanced blue and green hues create a complete, profound sense of serenity.
The meticulous control of the hand-printing process both accentuates the distinctive hemp fibres in the paper and enables a greater depth of tone to be reached.
